FRIDLI BUCHER
Lucerne, Basel, Zurich, Switzerland, 1982/1995
Puppet play by Hugo Schaer and Thomas Birve
Music: Urban Maeder
The material for this production comes from the “Fridli Bucher Song”, which was sung well into the 19th century. During the Peasants War the revolutionary farmer Fridli Bucher from Willisau was an activist for the freedom of exploited country dwellers and was, on 5th July 1653, executed by the aristocratic Lucerne government in the name of the state.
“Fridli Bucher” was performed with great success on different Swiss stages. Thirteen years later, the spectacle is performed once more in a new production in Ufhusen, Fridli Bucher’s place of origin.
“...Fridli Bucher is an outstandingly produced puppet play that sets new standards. It must be counted as one of the theatre events of the year.” H.W. Moser-Ehinger
