After the Meinrad Inglin novella “Master Sebastian”
Puppet play by Hugo Schaer and Thomas Birve
Music: Urban Maeder
Master Sebastian is a wood sculptor who is commissioned by a prince to carve seven figures from the Dance of Death, which should be as life-like as possible. Sebastian puts all his energy into the job and even has to give the figures his own and strangers’ blood so that they become warm and alive. The artist Sebastian is no longer understood by the world around him. People suspect witchcraft behind his wonderful and haunting work. They demand that he be put to death.
“...all in all: the Schaer/Birve production seduces the audience with a two-hour firework of images, an overflowing wealth of ideas, the synthesis of play, images and music and not least with its human warmth.” Xaver Schorno
